Jeff and Colleen give a brief history of DCA.

Disney’s California Adventure had a number of missteps during its inception and execution. Unfortunately, the financial difficulty of Euro Disney affected many Disney projects, including DCA to live up to its original vision. The result in 2001 was a very carnival knock-off, un-Disneyland experience.

Seriously, the state that was the initial focus of DCA was just down the freeway…

I never understood moving ahead with a park created on the cheap. Wait until it was ready and that lived up to the ‘Disney’ standard.

As time went on, more money and thought were put into upgrades which gave it some Disney air about it.

The difficulty now is that, for the most part, the park has lost its initial connection to California (which not be a bad thing) and has morphed into an IP junkyard to put lands or rides that have no other place in a Disney park centric appeal. Note: Epcot is experienceing a similar situation.

What are your thoughts about DCA? What did you think about when it opened? Have you been impressed with the additions (Buena Vista street, Pixar Pier, Marvel area, etc)? Do you think DCA will find it’s proper personality someday?
